Workout Description
AMRAP in 10 minutes
5 Deadlifts (315/225 lb)
10 Bar Over Burpees
15 Box Jumps (24/20 in)
Why This Workout Is Very Hard
315/225lb deadlifts are near-maximal for average athletes, and the AMRAP format provides zero recovery. Bar-over burpees immediately tax the posterior chain and lungs already stressed by heavy pulls, while box jumps compound leg fatigue. The combination of heavy barbell loading, high-intensity cardio, and plyometrics in continuous 10-minute format creates multiple simultaneous limiting factors — grip, lungs, and legs all fail together.
Training Focus
This workout develops the following fitness attributes:
- Stamina (7/10): Repeated cycles of deadlifts, burpees, and box jumps accumulate significant muscular fatigue across posterior chain, legs, and upper body, demanding sustained muscular output over many rounds.
- Power (7/10): Box jumps and bar-over burpees require explosive hip extension and jumping power. Deadlifts at this load also demand powerful hip drive, making power a primary training stimulus.
- Endurance (6/10): A 10-minute AMRAP with continuous movement across three exercises creates meaningful cardiovascular demand, requiring athletes to sustain elevated heart rate throughout without rest periods.
- Strength (6/10): 315/225 lb deadlifts represent a moderately heavy load that challenges absolute strength, especially as fatigue accumulates across rounds, making each set progressively more demanding.
- Speed (6/10): Efficient transitions between movements and fast cycling of burpees and box jumps are critical to maximizing rounds in this 10-minute AMRAP, rewarding athletes who move with urgency.
- Flexibility (3/10): Deadlifts require hip hinge mobility and hamstring flexibility; box jumps need ankle dorsiflexion. Overall mobility demands are moderate but not extreme for this workout.

Scaling Options
Weight: Scale deadlifts to 225/155 lb (roughly 70% of Rx) or 185/135 lb for newer athletes — the bar should feel heavy but allow cycling. Movement subs: Replace bar over burpees with lateral burpees over a line or standard burpees if jumping over the bar is a coordination issue. Sub box jumps with box step-ups (same height) or reduce box height to 20/16 in to maintain the hip extension stimulus without risk of missed jumps under fatigue. Volume: Reduce reps to 5 deadlifts / 8 burpees / 12 box jumps if the full rep scheme causes rounds to exceed 3-4 minutes each. Time: Keep the 10-minute window — it is appropriate for this stimulus.
Scaling Explanation
Scale the deadlift if you cannot perform at least 5 unbroken reps at Rx weight with a neutral spine when fresh — form breakdown under fatigue at 315/225 lb is a serious injury risk. Scale the burpees or box jumps if you are spending more than 2 minutes on either movement per round, as this kills the intended conditioning stimulus. The goal is to complete at least 3 full rounds — if you are finishing fewer than 3, reduce load or reps. Prioritize technique on the deadlift above all else; intensity is secondary to a safe spine. Athletes with Achilles sensitivity or recent lower leg injuries should step down from box jumps every rep. The workout should feel like a hard, sustained grind — not a max-effort sprint followed by survival mode.
Intended Stimulus
This is a moderate-to-high intensity 10-minute AMRAP designed to challenge your aerobic capacity while testing your ability to manage heavy barbell cycling under fatigue. The target time domain sits in the sustained hard effort zone — think 85-90% output maintained throughout. The deadlift weight is meant to be heavy but cycling-capable, the bar over burpees are the great equalizer that will spike your heart rate, and the box jumps demand explosive hip extension when your legs are already taxed. The primary challenge is conditioning and mental toughness — specifically, your ability to keep moving when the burpees and box jumps accumulate fatigue on top of a heavy pull.
Coach Insight
The deadlifts are the anchor of this workout — treat them with respect but don't let them slow you down unnecessarily. Aim for touch-and-go or quick singles with minimal rest in the early rounds, but have a plan to break them (3+2 or 2+2+1) as fatigue sets in. Keep your back tight and hinge efficiently — do not round under load when tired. For bar over burpees, step up if needed but stay consistent — a steady, unbroken pace beats sprinting and stopping. Land softly and use your hips to pop over the bar. On box jumps, use a step-down strategy from round 2 onward to protect your Achilles and keep your heart rate from spiking uncontrollably. The biggest mistake athletes make is going out too hot on the deadlifts and burpees in round 1, then dying by round 3. Aim for a pace you can sustain for all 10 minutes. Target 4-5+ rounds for competitive athletes. Transitions between movements should be immediate — no standing around.
Benchmark Notes
Each round is 5 deadlifts at 315/225 lb, 10 bar-over burpees and 15 box jumps. Elite athletes hold about 65 seconds a round (8.4+ rounds in 10 minutes). L5 (3.8-4.5 rounds) deadlifts singles and takes about 2:15 a round.
