Why This Workout Is Very Hard

The defining factor is the 400m D-ball carry at 90# as a finisher — brutal even fresh, but coming after 450m of prior carries and 600m of sprinting, it's nearly crushing. D-ball carries compress the chest and restrict breathing, making the sprint intervals uniquely punishing. Cumulative core, leg, and respiratory fatigue compound across three distinct sections, with no built-in rest. Most average athletes will need multiple breaks on the final 400m carry.

Training Focus

This workout develops the following fitness attributes:

  • Stamina (8/10): The 400m d-ball carry is a brutal test of sustained muscular output. Grip, core bracing, and leg drive are taxed continuously across multiple heavy carry segments with minimal true recovery.
  • Endurance (7/10): Repeated carry-sprint combinations and a final 400m run create sustained cardiovascular demand. The total volume and mixed locomotion challenge aerobic capacity significantly beyond moderate levels.
  • Strength (5/10): A 90# d-ball requires meaningful strength to pick up and stabilize, especially under fatigue. However, this is a carry-based stimulus, not maximal force production, placing it squarely at moderate strength demand.
  • Speed (5/10): Sprint segments provide genuine speed stimulus, but heavy carry fatigue blunts top-end velocity. Transitions between carry and sprint require quick mental and physical shifts, creating a moderate speed demand.
  • Power (4/10): Sprint transitions after heavy carries demand explosive leg turnover, and d-ball pickups require hip extension power. However, the dominant stimulus is a sustained grind rather than purely explosive effort.
  • Flexibility (3/10): D-ball bear-hug positioning demands some thoracic extension and shoulder openness. Sprinting requires basic hip flexor mobility. No extreme range of motion requirements throughout the workout.
