Workout Description

For time:3x 1 down and up suitcase carry 60# R1 down and up single db front rack carry R1 down and up suitcase carry 60# L1 down and up single db front rack carry L4x1 down and up suitcase carry L1 down and up suitcase carry R*all in a vest

Why This Workout Is Hard

This workout combines moderate loading (60# suitcase carries, single DB front rack carries) with continuous movement and significant grip/core fatigue. The added weight vest increases metabolic demand throughout. While individual movements are manageable, the repetitive unilateral carries with no built-in rest, combined with the vest, create substantial cumulative fatigue. The work-to-rest ratio is unfavorable, and grip endurance becomes a limiting factor. Average athletes will complete this but experience notable difficulty.

Training Focus

This workout develops the following fitness attributes:

  • Stamina (7/10): Significant muscular endurance challenge from repeated unilateral carries and sustained loaded positions. Grip and core fatigue accumulate across multiple rounds and transitions.
  • Strength (6/10): 60lb suitcase carries and single-arm front rack carries demand moderate absolute strength. The unilateral nature increases stability demands, but loads are not maximal effort.
  • Speed (5/10): Steady pacing required to manage fatigue across multiple rounds. Transitions between movements and sides demand efficiency, but not sprint-level cycling speed.
  • Endurance (4/10): Moderate cardiovascular demand from loaded carries and transitions. The 'for time' format and added vest weight elevate heart rate, but movement intensity remains submaximal compared to pure cardio work.
  • Flexibility (3/10): Basic range of motion required for carries and rack positions. Minimal mobility demands; primarily static loaded positions rather than dynamic stretching or extreme ranges.
  • Power (2/10): Carries are slow, grinding movements with no explosive component. Movement velocity is controlled and deliberate, not ballistic or reactive.

Movements

  • Loaded Stair Walk
  • Single-Arm Farmer Carry
  • Single-Arm Front Rack Carry

Modality Profile

All movements are weighted carries: suitcase carries (dumbbell), single DB front rack carries, and weighted vest. These are external load movements classified as Weightlifting modality.
