Why This Workout Is Very Hard

This partner workout combines high skill demands (BMUs, hang clean & jerks, DB push press, handstand holds, ring supports) with sustained intensity and significant volume. The alternating partner structure eliminates rest—while one athlete works, the other holds a static position under fatigue. The 2k row + 3k bike creates a long time domain (25-35 min), and the skill movements performed while fatigued compound difficulty. Most average athletes will struggle with movement quality and static hold duration.

Training Focus

This workout develops the following fitness attributes:

  • Endurance (8/10): 2k row and 3k bike with partner switching creates sustained cardiovascular demand. Continuous aerobic work with minimal rest drives significant endurance stimulus throughout the workout.
  • Stamina (7/10): BMU, hang cleans, push presses, handstand holds, and ring supports demand sustained muscular output. Multiple movement patterns fatigue different muscle groups cumulatively.
  • Flexibility (6/10): BMU requires shoulder mobility and thoracic extension. Hang cleans demand ankle and hip mobility. Ring support and handstand holds require significant shoulder and wrist mobility.
  • Strength (5/10): Hang cleans and push presses at 50# require moderate force production. BMU and ring support demand relative bodyweight strength, but not maximal effort loads.
  • Speed (5/10): Partner switching creates transition points and pacing strategy. Steady cycling on row and bike with forced breaks when partner falls limits sprint intensity.
  • Power (4/10): Hang cleans and push presses contain explosive elements, but fatigue from endurance work limits power expression. Not a primary power-focused stimulus.
