Why This Workout Is Hard

Nancy alone is already a tough benchmark due to OHS technical demands under run fatigue. Here, the KB overhead carries pre-fatigue shoulders and core before the workout even begins, and building to a heavy 3-rep touch-and-go deadlift taxes the posterior chain and grip. By the time athletes hit Nancy, the OHS — already skill-demanding and shoulder-intensive — becomes significantly harder to maintain with accumulated fatigue from the preceding volume.

Training Focus

This workout develops the following fitness attributes:

  • Flexibility (8/10): OHS is one of CrossFit's most mobility-intensive movements, demanding thoracic extension, shoulder external rotation, and hip and ankle flexibility. Overhead KB carries reinforce this same mobility pattern throughout.
  • Endurance (7/10): Nancy's five 400m runs totaling 2km, combined with OHS, creates substantial cardiovascular demand. The for-time format pushes athletes to maintain a hard pace across all five rounds.
  • Stamina (7/10): Seventy-five total OHS reps combined with 2km of running taxes shoulder and leg muscular endurance significantly. The warm-up KB carries pre-fatigue the shoulders before the main effort begins.
  • Strength (6/10): Building to a heavy touch-and-go triple on deadlifts is a direct strength stimulus. OHS at 95 lb demands meaningful overhead and leg strength, and loaded KB carries reinforce functional strength.
  • Speed (5/10): For-time format across 5 rounds rewards smart pacing on the run and efficient bar cycling. Transitions and consistent effort management are important but not sprint-level speed demands.
  • Power (4/10): Deadlift triples require explosive hip extension, and efficient OHS demands a powerful drive to lock out overhead. However, the endurance-focused metcon format moderates peak power expression significantly.
