2,006 meter Row
Why This Workout Is Very Hard
This workout combines ~4,000m of rowing with 90 barbell reps and 60 burpees in a brutal sequence. The 95/65lb thrusters and power snatches hit fatigued legs and shoulders after the opening row, while bar-over burpees sandwich the barbell work destroying any recovery. The closing 2,006m row on completely depleted legs and lungs is the killer. Expect 35-50+ minutes for average athletes with multiple limiting factors hitting simultaneously.

Training Focus
This workout develops the following fitness attributes:
- Stamina (9/10): Ninety barbell reps across three movements plus sixty burpees demand exceptional muscular endurance. Grip, posterior chain, and shoulder stamina are repeatedly challenged with minimal recovery between high-rep sets.
- Endurance (9/10): Two long rowing pieces bookending heavy barbell and burpee work create sustained cardiovascular demand throughout. The aerobic system is heavily taxed across the entire duration of this lengthy for-time workout.
- Power (7/10): Power snatches and power cleans are inherently explosive movements requiring hip extension and bar speed. Thrusters also demand a powerful drive from the squat. Burpees add repeated explosive hip extension.
- Speed (6/10): For-time format incentivizes efficient bar cycling and quick burpee transitions. Pacing the rows strategically while maintaining movement speed on barbell complexes is critical to a competitive finish time.
- Flexibility (5/10): Power snatches require overhead mobility, thrusters demand thoracic and hip flexibility, and cleans need wrist and front rack positioning. Moderate but meaningful mobility demands across multiple movement patterns.
- Strength (5/10): Moderate loads of 95/65 lb are used across snatches, thrusters, and cleans. Not maximal strength work, but the barbell weight becomes increasingly challenging as fatigue accumulates over the workout.

Scaling Options
Weight: Scale barbell to 75/55 lb for intermediate athletes, or 65/45 lb for newer athletes — the goal is to keep sets moving with short breaks, not grinding singles. Movement subs: Replace Power Snatches with Dumbbell Snatches (35/25 lb) or Hang Power Snatches if loading overhead is a concern. Replace Bar Over Burpees with Lateral Burpees to a plate or standard burpees if jumping over the bar is an issue. Replace Thrusters with Front Squats + Push Press if the combined movement is too demanding. Replace Power Cleans with Hang Power Cleans or Dumbbell Power Cleans. Volume: Reduce reps to 20 per movement for athletes newer to CrossFit, or reduce rows to 1,500m/1,500m to keep total time under 45 minutes. Row sub: 2,000m Ski Erg or 2,000m Bike Erg (adjust to 3,000-4,000m on bike) if rowers are unavailable.
Scaling Explanation
Scale the weight if you cannot perform at least 10 unbroken power snatches or 15 unbroken thrusters at Rx weight when fresh — if you can't do it fresh, you definitely can't cycle it fatigued. Scale the volume if your estimated finish time exceeds 60 minutes, as the stimulus becomes more about survival than sustained effort. Prioritize technique over load on the snatch especially — a missed or ugly snatch under fatigue is a recipe for shoulder or low back injury. The target time for Rx athletes is 35-50 minutes; scaled athletes should aim for 40-55 minutes. If you're newer to CrossFit, treat this as a long aerobic effort and focus on keeping moving rather than hitting prescribed loads. The workout honors a moment in time — respect it by finishing strong, not by burning out in the first row.
Intended Stimulus
This is a tribute workout — the meter distances (2,003 and 2,006) are a nod to the years, and the total volume is a grind designed to test your full engine over a long, sustained effort. Expect a 35-60+ minute time domain depending on fitness level. The energy demand is a long, hard sustained effort — think diesel engine, not a sports car. The primary challenge is mental and conditioning-based: managing fatigue across high-rep barbell cycling movements sandwiched between two significant rows. The barbell weight is moderate by design, meant to be challenging but cyclable, not a max-effort load. This is about pacing, grit, and keeping your technique honest when your lungs are on fire.
Coach Insight
Row 1 (2,003m): Set a sustainable pace — do NOT sprint this. Think 85% effort. You have a long day ahead. Aim for a split you could hold for 10+ minutes. Power Snatches: Break these early and often. Sets of 5-8 are smart. The snatch is the most technical movement here — if your form degrades, you risk injury and slow down. Bar Over Burpees: Find a rhythm, not a sprint. Step-overs are completely acceptable and will save your legs for the thrusters. Thrusters: These will hurt after the burpees. Break into sets of 5-10 from the start. Do NOT go unbroken and blow up. Bar Over Burpees (Round 2): You know what's coming — stay mentally tough. Keep moving. Power Cleans: These are the most forgiving barbell movement here. Use a deadlift-shrug-pull pattern and cycle efficiently. Sets of 10 are achievable. Row 2 (2,006m): Leave something in the tank for a strong finish — negative split this row if possible. Common mistakes: going out too hot on Row 1, going unbroken on snatches and blowing up, rushing burpees and spiking heart rate unnecessarily.
Benchmark Notes
Two ~2,000 m rows around 30 power snatches, 30 thrusters and 30 power cleans at 95/65 lb, with 30 bar-over burpees between each lift. The rows are about half the time. L5 (32-35:30) rows each 2,000 m in about 8:15 and breaks the barbell into sets of 10. L10 (under 22:30) rows near 6:50.
Modality Profile
5 movements total: Row (M), Power Snatch (W), Burpee Over Bar (G), Thruster (W), Power Clean (W). That gives 1 Gymnastics, 1 Monostructural, 3 Weightlifting. Percentages: G=20%, M=20%, W=60%.
